What You Need To Know About Gastronorm

Tuesday, May 17, 2022

Gastronorm (GN) is a size standard of trays, pans and containers that are commonly used worldwide in the catering and professional food industry.

Gastronorm Sizes

The fractional sizing concept allows different-sized CN containers and pans to be interchangeable. The standard size is GN 1/1 - 530 x 325mm (Full Gastronorm)

There is a total of 9 different sizes (outer dimensions) of GN containers, and a variety in depths.

Gastronorm Product Material

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate Gastronorm Containers (Plastic GN Containers) are produced for refrigerated food, chilling and buffet display setting purposes. Due to the material, these products are not oven-safe and suitable for cooking.

Melamine

Melamine Gastronorm Containers have the same functions as Plastic Gastronome Containers. Melamine is a rigid, lightweight and durable material but not good for conducting heat. Melamine GN products are not suitable for cooking or used in the oven.

Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel Gastronorm Containers could be the best selection for commercial kitchens, which are usually used for cooking and chilling. With durability and excellence in conducting heat, the products are oven-safe.
